| Yoga Meditation and Behavioral Medicine for Sleep Management |
|
Like it or love it, we all need sleep, yet 40% of all Americans are pathologically sleep-deprived. Health scientists say what we really need is good sleep that is deep, uninterrupted, and stable. This 3 session series will introduce you to current information on behavioral medicine and psychological approaches to improving adult sleep patterns. Each 90 minute meeting will include practice in mediations and asanas from the Kundalini yoga tradition, as taught by Yogi Bhajan and link them with strategies endorsed by sleep researchers.

The sessions will provide information and practice concerning the following:

Use of autogenic “cool down” scripts for sleep onset
The role of herbal and pharmacological sleep aids
Establishing a sleep monitoring practice
Yogic forced nostril breath for relaxation
Cognitive-behavioral approaches to deal with insomnia
Developing a yoga sadhana (asana and meditation) for sleep onset
Regulating the sleep cycle with bright light exposure training
