Couple Therapy
Approximately 50% of marriages in the United States end in divorce. Half of these occur in the first 7 years of marriage.

Any relationship may go through intense periods of conflict, distress and turmoil. When this happens, members of couples may experience emotional, behavioral and health problems as a result of the stress.

Relationships can be hard work.

Can Couple Therapy Help?

Recent research shows that couple therapy can help.

In the largest clinical trial of couple therapy to date, almost three quarters of couples treated by Integrative Behavioral Couples Therapy were significantly improved or recovered (this study was conducted by Dr. Andrew Christensen at UCLA and Dr. Neil Jacobson at the University of Washington, Seattle).  Similar success rates were found for traditional Behavioral Couples Therapy – almost two thirds of couples were significantly improved or recovered.

Dr. Megan Sullaway was one of the treating psychologists in this seminal study. As such, she received intensive training in both Integrated Behavioral Couples Therapy and in Traditional Behavioral Couples Therapy.

Integrative Behavioral Couples Therapy

Integrative Behavioral Couples Therapy (IBCT)combines traditional behavioral interventions (such as communication skills training) with strategies aimed at increasing emotional acceptance and relationship enhancement.  To learn more about IBCT, click here.

Behavioral Couples Therapy
